About the property
Built originally in 1936 by a great uncle with the help of a £50 grant from the Board of Agriculture, it replaced the original "blackhouse". Neighbours provided most of the labour to build the house and so the £50 grant covered most of the construction costs - how things have changed!
The "new" house was very basic - no indoor sanitation, no electricity and heating provided by four peat fires." Seacote" was modernised and extended in 2005 to provide self-catering accommodation of the highest standard.
Today, "Seacote" provides four double bed rooms, one of which is equipped for disabled persons (Category 2 Disabled Access). A large disabled persons bathroom on the ground floor is equipped with a bath and a shower . The two bedrooms upstairs have ensuite shower rooms.
The kitchen is spacious with a huge farmhouse style table and opens onto the living area. A gas fired stove provides a welcome glow on a cold evening, and this whole area has high sloping ceilings clad in Douglas Fir rough sawn boards giving a warm feel to the whole house.
Outside there are clothes drying facilities and a secure shed for storage of bikes and other equipment.
